Secret #32: The Mannequin

Main Street Cinema Fun Fact:The mannequin in the ticket booth is wearing a Lillian cast member name badge, the name of Walt Disney wife.


Secret #31: Swiss Family TreeHouse

Before the Tarzan Tree-house, there was the Swiss Family Robinson Tree-house based of the movie Disney created.











Secret #30: Tiki Room

The Barker Bird was originally outside the Tiki Room, hollering to the crowd to lure them into the attraction. This single bird often would cause such a crowd, it became a roadblock and was eventually removed to improve traffic flow.



Secret #29: When Disneyland First Opened...

When Disneyland opened in 1955, the Upjohn Company sponsored a turn of the century style pharmacy on Main Street (where the Fortuosity Shop is currently located). The second story windows still honor the Upjohn Company executives who opened that original Disneyland shop.




Secret #28: Toontown

 In the library window there is a sign to pay homage to the first company that was started by Walt, “Laugh-O-Gram Studio.” The studio was located in Kansas City Missouri and housed Walt’s animation studio from 1921-1923. They made a total of 10 short films. After the company went bankrupt, Walt sold his film camera for a one way ticket to California. He brought along his unfinished final film Alice's Wonderland.



Secret #27: Walt & Roy Initals

Look out for Walt and Roy Disney's initials, which are formed in the wrought-iron railing above the queue to the Pirates of the Caribbean.


Secret #26: Only Place to Get Refills on Soft Drinks

The only places in Disneyland where you can get free re-fill on soft drinks are Pizza Port, Plaza Inn,and Rancho Del Zocalo.




Secret #25: Mark Twain

This is the Indian village that you see while on the Mark Twain or from the island! When you pass by, you see an elder telling a story to a few children. Did you know the story the elder tells switches between 3 stories? We just never notice it because of the language he's speaking in! They are also real stories!

 

Secret #24: Jungle Cruise

Did you know 2 of the influences for Jungle Cruise include the movie "African Queen" 

















and the book "Heart of Darkness"?

 Heart of Darkness refers to Africa, because at the time period, Africa was completely unknown.

 The boats in JC are modeled after those in both the movie and the book, and you can influences from both throughout the ride!

Secret #23: C3PO & R2D2

The C3P0 and the R2D2 droids inside of the line queue for Star Tours are from the movie Star Wars. They were reprogramed to move and speak with the audio for the ride.


Secret #22:Mary Blair Doll

There is a special doll inside It's A Small World.



Under the Eiffel Tower there is a girl doll holding a red balloon. This doll was made to represent Mary Blair. She created lots of concept art for Walt Disney animated films and created the concept art for It's A Small World. The doll represents her quirky personality and curly blonde hair. There are many great books with her art! This one to the right is a book of her concept art for It's A Small World!

Secret #21: A Monkey Named Jack

There is a chandelier inside the Pieces of Eight shop that is responsible for a movie character.




Inside the pieces of Eight shop in New Orleans Square there is a chandelier with a monkey in it. The monkey was named Jack many years before the Pirate's of the Caribbean movies. This little guy is said to have been the inspiration for the monkey Jack inside the movie series.

Secret #20: Outlet inside of Sleeping Beauty's castle!

There is an outlet inside of Sleeping Beauty's castle.



Right as you walk into the castle from Main Street if you look towards the bottom of the right wall in the last doorway nook in the castle you will spot a power outlet. It can be a little tricky to find especially if there are people sitting on the floor. I have seen many people use this to charge their cell phones and cameras. If you do want to use the plug I suggest asking a cast member if it is ok first so you don't get into any trouble.

Secret #19: Haunted Mansion

At Disneyland, while waiting in line for the Haunted Mansion you snake through a line and enter the mansion's facade. The ride, however, is entirely outside the park

Secret #17: Innoventions



The building where Innoventions is now housed, used to be the home of the attraction America Sings. Reportedly, in the 1970's a female cast member was actually caught in the moving walls and decapitated.

Secret #16: The Columbia Ship



The Columbia ship in Frontierland is actually a scale duplicate of the first American ship to sail around the world. There is a museum inside the ship & it shows pictures of the real life ship and details of how the crew lived.

Secret #15: Big Thunder Mountain/ Mine Train




The little town buildings and props at the end of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are actually remnants of another ride that used to exist in the exact same location. Before Big Thunder Mountain was built, there was a ride called Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland. The little  town is Natures Wonderland train at the loading station. Each train car was named for a part of the ride...Saguaro Forest, Bear Country, etc. Also, this is a great view of the little mining town of Rainbow Ridge and how close you used to be able to get to the town



Secret #14: Sleeping Beauty's Castle



If you walk through the Castle passage leading into Fantasyland and look down, you will find a spike in the ground. Before Toontown was built, this spike marked the exact center of Disneyland.



Secret #13: Disneyland Firehouse




Above the Disneyland Firehouse is an apartment that was designed for Walt Disney himself. It is said that if he was staying in the park, the light in the window would be left on. Since his passing, the light in the window is left on because company officials say they like to think that Walt's spirit will always be at Disneyland.



 


Secret #12: Refurbished Seats




On the Casey jr. Circus Train ride, all the open cars are actually refurbished seats for the carousal!
